Montini 2, Shamrocks 5: Broncos drop regular season finale

The Broncos dropped a 5–2 decision to the St. Patrick Shamrocks on Monday at Montini to conclude the regular season.

St. Patrick opened the scoring in the first inning when Gumiela drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home a run. The Shamrocks added to their lead in the third inning, capitalizing on an RBI double by Alvarado and consecutive bases-loaded walks issued to Haas and Gonzalez, pushing the advantage to 4–0.

St. Patrick added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Alvarado connected on a solo home run to right field.

Schoen earned the win for the Shamrocks, allowing two runs on three hits over two innings while striking out two and walking one. Chris Zayed took the loss for Montini, working two innings and surrendering one run on one hit with two strikeouts and two walks. Richard recorded the save.

Offensively for Montini, Max Bell and Drew Church each drove in a run. Church led the Broncos with two hits in three at-bats. Defensively, Montini turned a double play and played error-free baseball, with Nick Sheeran leading the team by handling seven chances in the field.

For St. Patrick, Alvarado paced the offense from the nine spot in the lineup, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Tomaszek and Alvarado each collected two hits for the Shamrocks. St. Patrick was also sharp defensively, committing no errors, with Tomaszek recording seven chances in the field.

The Broncos will now face fellow CCL White school Marmion Academy in the first round of the 2025 IHSA 3A State Playoffs.
