Montini 4, Cadets 2: Broncos Advance to Regional Final!

The Broncos earned a hard-fought 4–2 victory over the Marmion Cadets on Thursday at St. Francis High School in the opening round of the 2025 playoffs.

Marmion struck first in the opening inning when Flores launched a two-run home run to center field, giving the Cadets an early advantage. Montini responded in the top of the fourth inning, tying the game on an RBI double by Drew Church and a run-scoring fielder’s choice off the bat of Max Bell.

This game would eventually go to extra innings, where the Broncos broke the deadlock in the top of the eighth inning with timely hitting. Drew Church delivered a clutch double to center field to give Montini the lead, and Nick Sheeran followed with a single down the right-field line to add an insurance run.

Robert Sansone earned the win in relief for Montini, allowing just one hit and no runs over three and one-third innings while striking out two without issuing a walk. Blake Heyer started the game for the Broncos and worked four and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out seven. For Marmion, Hughes started and allowed two runs over four and one-third innings, while Morvice took the loss after surrendering two runs on three hits in relief.

At the plate, Sheeran, Church, and Jackson Simek each recorded two hits for Montini. Church finished 2-for-4 and led the Broncos with two RBIs. Defensively, Montini turned a key double play to help preserve the win.

Flores paced Marmion offensively, going 2-for-3 from the cleanup spot with two RBIs. The Cadets also turned three double plays in the contest.

Montini will now go up against St. Francis for a shot to win their first regional title since 2022.
