Montini 10, Spartans 2: Broncos bounce back, split season series

The Broncos put together an impressive all-around performance Saturday, rolling past St. Francis 10–2.

The Spartans struck first in the opening inning when Bagaconza launched a solo home run to right field, but Montini quickly responded. The Broncos seized control in the top of the second inning, erupting for four runs. Kameron Cox sparked the rally with an RBI double, Jackson Simek followed with a two-run triple, and an error allowed another run to score, giving Montini a 4–1 lead. The Broncos added to their advantage in the third when Cox doubled down the left-field line to drive in another run.

Johnny Louise earned the win on the mound for Montini, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings while striking out three and walking two. Solloway took the loss for St. Francis, working four and two-thirds innings and giving up eight runs (two earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts. Drake Palmer closed things out for the Broncos with a scoreless inning of relief, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Montini’s offense finished with 11 hits, led by Drew Church, Sean Hubeny, and Cox, who each recorded two hits. Cox and Simek drove in two runs apiece. Defensively, the Broncos were sharp, turning a double play and committing no errors, with Nick Sheeran leading the way by handling eight chances.

St. Francis collected hits from McGrath, Bagaconza, Hoecker, Gainer, and Hobein, with Bagaconza and Hoecker each driving in a run.

The Broncos will now conclude their Do It Stevie’s Way Tournament run with two consolations games.
